20 Yard
Stop Net |
| |
Description:
The 20 yard stop net is made from 40 yards of net
strung on 20 yard lines. The top line is 2mm braided
polypropylene, the bottom line is leaded
polypropylene line.
The fixed end poles are the same as in the Fast Set
System, each net has 2 fixed poles, one at each end
and a third loose pole with an open loop in the top.
This is placed in the top line of the net between
both end poles. The bottom of the pole is pushed
into the ground without being fixed to the bottom
line.
The leaded line on one end pole will slide to the
middle of the pole and no further.
Use:
The 20 yard stop net is ideally suited for use when ferreting
open hedges, gateways, and working rough areas and brambles
with dogs. If you are ferreting a really thick hedge that possibly
has fencing on both sides or stock/ barbed wire, then this is
impossible to purse net.
Take a 20 yard stop net and place at right angles from the hedge
several yards beyond the end of the bury. Place another net opposite
on the other side of the hedge. Where the bury ends, further along
the hedge, place two more nets as the first two. Then take a
thick polythene bag, something like a peat bag, and push it into the
middle of the hedge, a few yards nearer to the bury than the stop
net. You can also use for this purpose a thin plywood board
approximately 1 foot high.
As the rabbits run down the hedge and observe these obstructions
they will then leave the hedge bottom and run parallel to the hedge
and be caught in the stop nets. You can then “leapfrog” along the
hedge moving two nets at a time as you ferret your way along.
Setting a stop net
Undo securing string that holds net in bag.
Undo elasticated string which secures poles together for
carrying.
Place unmarked pole into the ground firmly, take second
fixed pole (with white marker) in right hand, hold left
hand loosely over hanks of net looped over the pole.
Walk backwards slowly letting hanks of net slip off
pointed end of pole.
When all of the loose net is off this pole pull lines
tight, place pole firmly in ground, take the third loose
pole and support the middle of the net with it.
Picking up a stop net
Take the third loose pole out of the net.
Take fixed end pole with white marker out of the ground,
slide bottom leaded line to the middle of the pole.
Hold the middle of the pole with your right hand, with your
left hand pinch top and bottom line together a full arms
length away from your right hand, letting loose net hang
down you then take the point of the pole and threadle it
between both lines and selve edge mesh. Feed his along the
pole until it reaches your right hand so it can be held in
place with this hand.
Repeat this procedure as you walk along the net. You then
take the pole that is still in the ground, out of the
ground, and lay it alongside the picking up pole.
Then take
the elasticated string, slide loop over both pointed ends of
poles until it reaches the middle of the poles cross
underneath the poles bring out on top of the poles and tie a
bow knot.
You should now have two poles tied tightly together and hanks of net
hanging approx 3 feet from the middle underside of the
poles.
Take third ( loose) pole and lay alongside first and second
pole. Drop net into the net bag, pull securing strings
tight, bring over the top of the poles and secure with a bow
knot. Undo securing string that holds net in bag.
